Just what the name of all that is holy is going on in France? Have the people gone complétement fous (batsh*t)? First they elect Nicolas Sarkozy, a Jew and a liberal (though he is in disguise as a conservative, but just you watch), then they're praising his appointments of even more Jews.
Whas' up, Frenchies? Aren't you guys supposed to be the most anti-Semitic country in the whole EU? Weren't all the French Jews fleeing for Israel like five minutes ago? Aren't innocent young men kidnapped off the streets and tortured? Don't gangs of disenchanted, bloodthirsty Muslim youth roam the streets, vandalizing Jewish cemetaries and setting cars on fire?

I had no idea Sarkozy is tribal, and there are more on the way. Fabuleux! I guess ‘Les Gens Francais’ really can cook (what’s French for cedilla?).
Sarkozy is Roman Catholic.
Matt—So was St. Peter & he even had a yiddische mamele … as for Sarkozy, he had a Jewish grandfather who converted to R-Catholicism—that would be good enough to get Israeli citizenship, but why revisit that old debate; he’s kin.
I’m going to have to agree with Matt here. Sarkozy’s ties to Judaism are pretty thin. The orthodox and conservative don’t recognize paternal lineage and reform doesn’t recognize anyone who wasn’t raised with a jewish upbringing, so no major branch of Judaism would claim him. There’s also the fact that he is Catholic. Maybe that’s why the French have forgiven him for having Jewish lineage.
Oy! I don’t care what any rabbis say—he’s alot more mishpachah than George Allen & and you better believe the antisemites don’t overlook that grandfather.
Yenta—I’m more skeptical of your thought that Sakro is a liberal in disguise, but I hear on NPR that he’s appointed Bernard Kouchner, the founder of Medicins san Frontier/Doctors without Borders, to his cabinet. Bravo Sarko!
